Every year The Knot conducts the most trusted wedding industry survey of its kind (12K couples!) called The Knot Real Weddings Study. With that knowledge in her pocket Anja knows better than most just how much the wedding industry has been affected by the advent of social media.“Couples have come [to The Knot] after getting engaged for years,” said Winikka, “but now the expectations of what it means to plan a wedding are changing.”  Come learn how couples self-describe their weddings, what couples look for on Instagram, when to send out your e-newsletter, how to make getting reviews part of your workflow and even venue trends; all taken from the stats of the most current Knot Survey.

Anja immersed herself in the weddings industry at a young age, when she took a job as a weddings coordinator at a local reception space, helping to make hundreds of couples’ wedding days perfect. In addition to editing, researching and reporting on a variety of topics for the TheKnot.com, ranging in subject from getting engaged to planning tips and wedding style ideas, Anja can be found pouring over trending topics and conversation among the thousands of brides that are a part of TheKnot.com community.

Anja has been a popular source for wedding trends, planning tips and advice and etiquette and has also served as an expert for the Today Show, Good Morning America, ABC 20/20, CNN Headline News, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today and local news segments across the country.

Our Cause of the Quarter is Austin Empty Bowl Project

In an effort to help out with the local food drive they threw, decorated and fired 120 bowls. The school’s staff was invited to the cafeteria to select a bowl and enjoy a simple meal of soup and bread. John and his wife, Lisa Blackburn, talked to the staff about hunger in their community, thanked them for their cash donations and then asked them to take their bowls home with them as a reminder of those with empty bowls. There are now “Empty Bowls” projects all over the world.

The Austin Empty Bowl Project (AEBP) was the first of its kind in Texas, founded in 1997 by Kit Adams, the owner of ClayWays Pottery Studio & Gallery. Each year, AEBP has grown in participation by both donors and attendees and, with the help of our generous community, they have raised more than $900,000.

In a world where margins are slimmer and expectations are greater than ever before, catering and event professionals must keep current on trends, produce creative ideas and continually build upon their network of innovate professionals to be successful and competitive. The National Association for Catering and Events (NACE) provides this network to advance the catering and events industry and its professionals.
