A Short Interview To Get To Know Sarah...

Briefly describe your current job description and the company that you work for.

I am the Director of Catering at the Lakeway Resort and Spa. I handle all social events (weddings, reunions, galas, etc.) and day meetings.

How long have you been in the events industry?

Since 2008. I started out as an Event Coordinator at Creative Consultants, then worked as a Catering Coordinator at the Austin Country Club, and most recently here at LRS.

What do you love about the events industry?

I love that every event is different which makes daily life exciting and keeps me on my toes. I like that I also learn something new with every client that I work with and enjoy the feeling of making a client happy when their event has met or exceeded their expectations.

Why did you join NACE and what do you hope to gain from being a member?

I joined NACE for multiple reasons; I like meeting and sharing stories with fellow Catering Managers from local businesses, gaining knowledge to share with my co-workers, and the idea of getting my CPCE certification in the near future.

Tell us something unique about you

In my previous life, before getting into Catering and Special Events, I was a professional ballet dancer for almost 15 years.

What is your favorite happy hour in town? Please do share details ;)

I love Contigo (they have delicious specialty drinks and an awesome outdoor seating area) and Salty Sow (lots of great plates to share with friends and wine specials).

What is #1 on your bucket list?

To do more traveling, specifically, eating my way through Europe.

What is your biggest accomplishment in life so far?

My two boys, ages 3.5 years and 11 months.

Who do  you aspire to be like and why?

I don’t know if I have a specific person, but I have attributes that I aspire to uphold and work towards, i.e., patience, compassion, and efficiency.

What does a perfect day look like to you?

Ha! Lots of sleep, quiet, and wine (I don’t get much of any of those with 2 little ones).

If you could bring one musician back from the dead, who would it be and why?

Tchaikovsky, having danced to a lot of his music, it would be amazing to be in the presence of him composing, playing and conducting.

If you could only keep only 3 possessions, what would they be?

All pictures - one from my wedding day and one of each of my boys on the day they were born.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Carbs-breads, crackers, pasta, etc.
